Client notes

Dates are from the most recent twelve months.

"My Omega Seamaster had been running about four minutes fast per day — I had tried adjusting the regulator myself without success. nagatima identified a partially magnetised balance wheel and a slightly off-centre hairspring coil. The difference afterwards was significant. The timing report was a useful addition."

"The bracelet on my daily steel watch had developed a noticeable rattle and the clasp was not snapping shut cleanly. The service was done in four days. The bracelet is quiet again and the clasp engages properly. They also pointed out a worn tube on one link that I had not noticed."

"I brought in a 1968 movement that had not been serviced in at least fifteen years. The watch stopped occasionally and the power reserve felt shorter than it should. The overhaul took six weeks. When I collected it the timing results were considerably better than anything I had seen on paper from the previous service centre."

"The intake process was different from other workshops — the technician sat down and actually looked at the watch with me, explained what the hairspring problem looked like under the loupe, and told me what the regulation work would aim to achieve. I appreciated that it was informational rather than a sales process."

"They found a cracked mainspring barrel during the overhaul and called me before doing anything further. I had not been told about this by the workshop that serviced it previously. The new part was sourced from an authorised distributor and the watch runs well. The only delay was waiting for the barrel to arrive."

"I had a German sport watch with an integrated bracelet that had become quite slack over several years of daily use. The care leaflet they included was more thorough than I expected — specific to the link type, with notes on cleaning frequency and what to watch for in the clasp tension over time."

Case studies

Three recent workshop visits described in more detail.

Case Study · Hairspring Adjustment

A 1970s dress watch with inconsistent positional rates

The situation

A vintage Swiss dress watch was performing well in the dial-up position but losing approximately ninety seconds per day when worn vertically. The owner had purchased it recently and wanted to understand whether the problem was addressable.

The work

After demagnetisation, timing machine readings confirmed significant positional variation. Microscope inspection found a hairspring coil with slight distortion affecting lateral centring. The coil was carefully corrected and the movement regulated across four positions.

The result

Positional variation reduced from over ninety seconds to under ten seconds per day across the measured positions. The owner received a printed timing sheet showing the before and after figures. Duration: eight working days.

Case Study · Long-Term Calibre Overhaul

A mechanical chronograph with intermittent stoppage

The situation

A hand-wound chronograph from the mid-1980s stopped irregularly after winding — sometimes running for two days, sometimes stopping within hours. The movement had not been serviced in at least twelve years, and the previous service record had been lost.

The work

Full disassembly revealed a worn mainspring with inconsistent coil geometry and dried lubricant throughout the keyless work. Pivots were within tolerance. The mainspring was replaced using an approved part sourced from a Swiss distributor; the movement was cleaned, lubricated, and regulated.

The result

The movement ran consistently to a full power reserve after reassembly. Timing measurements showed minus three to plus five seconds per day across positions. The owner was contacted mid-service regarding the mainspring replacement and approved the additional parts cost before the order was placed.

Case Study · Bracelet & Clasp Workshop

An integrated sport bracelet with loose links and a misfiring butterfly clasp

The situation

A steel sport bracelet on a daily-wear watch had developed slack in several links and a butterfly clasp that occasionally released under light lateral pressure. The bracelet had accumulated significant debris in the link joints from four years of daily use.

The work

Inspection found three worn tube collars and a compressed clasp spring. The collars were replaced with approved spares; the clasp spring was sourced from a parts distributor. The bracelet was cleaned ultrasonically and the clasp mechanism adjusted to the correct release tension.

The result

All link play was eliminated and the clasp engaged and released correctly under both deliberate and lateral pressure. A care leaflet for the specific bracelet type was included. Duration: three working days. The owner noted the clasp felt noticeably more secure than it had when new.
